December 2023 Observations
Welcome back to Observations, the monthly blog that updates annually detailing experimental observations from the good scientists at GoatVision Labs! It’s certainly been a while since the last update and while not much has happened, so much has changed. Are you tired of sentences like that? Me too, so let’s look at some of the recent and upcoming experiments from the Lab.
It’s almost been a year since The Goat Wizard released their second full-length, Mobile Government Sitcom, and it’s been well recieved by a small audience of lovely reviewers and fans. You can read some reviews of varying lengths from Tone Madison, The Elite Extremophile, and The Progspace. If you’re some cool individual who likes the album, consider dropping your own review over on Rate Your Music!
Next up, some incredibly unfortunate circumstances led to the November 1 release of the first new song from moth_OS since their debut EP mothware back in June 2021. If you want to know more about that, then listen to the song. It’s called “Bit Deth”, and it comes from a group of songs that will eventually make up the second EP by the band. Demo’d alongside the songs from mothware and with recording completed around June 2023, “Bit Deth” and EP2 mark the last moth_OS songs created as a collaboration between Liam and Will.
In less grim news, the Progressive Polka Project has just released a single foretelling the impending release of their next full-length album. “Corn Nuts Polka” released November 13 to much fanfare in the polka community. The song caused quite a stir in the corporate world as well, leading the official Corn Nuts (FKA-) Twitter account to bestow the prolific and adventurous band with a coveted “like.” With contributions from famed polkamen Thornton “Chuck” Reevee and Kyle Haus, it’s safe to say that “Corn Nuts Polka” is the song of the Winter and will go on to become a staple in the polka songbook. PPP bandleader Harold Bartholemy Jr. has this to say about the upcoming album:
“Corn Nuts Polka” is a track as tasty as its namesake and captures the ethos of our upcoming album, Polka, Pizzazz, and Polkas, out on 2024's 20th day. In a time of extreme division—politically, socially, and in terms of musical taste and consumption—the song is attempt to find common ground. In this case, that common ground is a yearning for crunchy, healthful, non-GMO snacks.”
There are other projects brewing from The Goat Wizard, moth_OS, and Greyson JS with news coming very soon for all three. Seriously! But for now, that’s all of the observations we’ve got on the experiments currently taking place in the Lab.
